VPAS, the local Area Agency on Aging, has empowered those 60 years and older with the resources and opportunities they need to lead engaged lives since 1974.  Our focus is on helping individuals and caregivers successfully navigate the changes and challenges that come with aging.  VPAS' Senior Leadership Team embraces employee feedback and input for improving the services we offer in the community in order to be relevant and timely.

VICAP Local Program Coordinator

 

VPAS is accepting interested applicants for a full-time Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) Local Program Coordinator.

DAYS/HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

WORKSITE: 325 Pine Avenue, Waynesboro, VA

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESThe holder of this 40 hour/week position is responsible for coordinating the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) activities within VPAS, providing support and training to VICAP Counselors, and satisfying reporting requirements in compliance with VPAS and Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) policies and procedures. They will also become certified as a full VICAP Counselor, will have client appointments and assist other VPAS Counselors with more complex situations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in: 

  • Explaining complicated information to people with varied education and backgrounds
  • Working with older adults, their families and caregivers
  • Public speaking and writing for publication
  • Managing and leading staff and volunteers
  • Excellent computers skills, including Google applications such as Drive and Gmail, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, and Zoom
  • Learning and implementing new skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Working in a nonprofit environment

QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience in the human services field.  At least two years of experience in a leadership role in the human services field preferred.

Case Manager

VPAS is accepting interested applicants for a full-time Case Manager in VPAS’ Southwest Region (Buena Vista, Lexington, Rockbridge).

DAYS/HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The holder of this 40 hour/week position is responsible for providing information on a wide range of topics and services to older individuals and their caregivers. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge of the complex health and human services system and Medicare Insurance Counseling within the Region, and will have demonstrated success in: 
•         Working with older adults, their families and caregivers
•         Performing home visits to determine eligibility for services
•         Connecting older adults with resources and supports to meet stated needs
•         Completing required training and certification exam required to provide Medicare Insurance  Counseling
•         Developing and sustaining professional relationships with community providers
•         Participating in program and operating budget development
•         Applying strong written and verbal communication
•         Using Microsoft Word and web-based applications
•         Working independently and on a team in a nonprofit environment

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience in the human services field.

Team Support Specialist

VPAS is accepting interested applicants for a part-time Team Support Specialist/Senior Transportation Driver position for Maury River Senior Services.

DAYS/HOURS: Flexible scheduling of 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm.

LOCATION: Maury River Senior Services, 2137 Magnolia Avenue, Buena Vista, VA

POSITION: The Team Support Specialist/Senior Transportation Driver (TSS) provides support as needed for programs including Meals on Wheels (MOWs), VPAS Cafés; and transportation to Cafes and/or to medical appointments or other destinations in the Rockbridge area. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge: Familiarity with Buena Vista, Lexington and Rockbridge County roads. Safe driving techniques and traffic laws in VA.  Familiarity with recreational and educational interests of older adults and aging issues preferred. Current Virginia driver license with clean driving record. Experience operating a cargo van preferred. At least one-year experience in the human services field preferred.  

SKILLS: Attention to detail; problem-solving; time management; organization; critical thinking, and establish and sustain interpersonal relationships. Excellent customer service skills.

ABILITY: Operate a van safely on confined city streets and rural roads in Rockbridge County; perform routine maintenance checks on vehicles; maintain required paperwork to policy standards; work independently and as part of a team; lifting and carrying 30lbs repeatedly.

Team Support Specialist

LOCATION: 985 South High Street, Harrisonburg VA

DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm.  Days and number of hours vary based on part-time or substitute position.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Team Support Specialist (TSS) provides support as needed for programs including Meals on Wheels (MOWs), VPAS Cafes, Aging with Confidence; and transportation to Cafes and/or to medical appointments or other destinations in the Harrisonburg Rockingham region.  The TSS is responsible for vehicle checks and maintenance under the supervision for the Nutrition and Transportation Manager.  

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must have excellent driving skills, customer service, communication, organization and time management skills; and be able to work independently and as part of a team.  Attention to detail, compliance with confidentiality rules, and sensitivity in working with vulnerable populations are a must.
