VPAS Cafes: Formerly Senior Centers, the VPAS Cafes provide a welcoming place where seniors can enjoy a noon meal, meet new people and learn new things. VPAS Cafes provide a variety of life enriching activities including: exercise programs, educational programs, health related programs, crafts, music, guest speakers. Locations and times vary.

Dementia Education: There is a national movement underway to ensure that people living with dementia have the resources and support they need to live independently and well for as long as possible. VPAS offers many educational opportunities regarding dementia, and those who participate, help their localities achieve the official designation of a Dementia Friendly Community.  We also offer activities for persons with dementia and those that care for them.

Emergency Services: One-time financial assistance, including referrals to other public and private agencies, may be available to older adults who have an emergency need which endangers their health and/or well-being. Assistance may be available for things like medication refills, assistive devices, utility and rent payments.

Health and Wellness: VPAS offers a variety of health education programs and activities designed to empower older adults to proactively manage their health with confidence. Join us for various levels of Tai Chi classes or a Matter of Balance workshop.

Information and Assistance: A professional and experienced Case Manager handles phone requests for assistance from older adults, caregivers, professionals, and others. This might include a home assessment to determine what types of services might be best to meet the older adult’s needs.

Meals on Wheels: Nutritious, healthy meals delivered are to the homes of older adults who are homebound and cannot prepare such a meal for themselves. A variety of hot and cold meals are delivered and offer not only the meal, but social engagement from the person, often a volunteer, delivering the meal.

Medicare Counseling: Certified Medicare insurance counselors help individuals and their caregivers make sense of Medicare and compare health insurance benefits to find the best plans available in an unbiased manner. Counselors are available in all VPAS regions by appointment.

Ombudsman: The Long Term Care Ombusdman is an advocate for persons living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and persons receiving community-based services. The Ombudsman assists residents to assert their rights and express their grievances, regarding the long-term care services they receive.

Senior Transportation: Senior Transportation is a limited service provided to those 60+ who can no longer drive. It is intended to be used as option in conjunction with other transportation means. It provides door to door service to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies and banks. Services is offered in all VPAS regions. Most VPAS vans/busses are wheelchair accessible.

Seasonal Programs: 

Farm Market Fresh for Seniors provides those 60+ with limited income, a coupon booklet with vouchers that can be used at local farmer’s markets to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. This is a seasonal program and coupons are given on a first come-first serve basis. 

Senior Cool Care provides a limited number of fans and/or air conditioners those eligible by virtue of age and income, who need additional cooling in their homes. The program is seasonal and supplies are limited, available on a first come first serve basis.
